Without it, moisture pools around the roots, the substrate turns swampy, and you end up with root rot and odor. This natural lava rock gives your build a true drainage layer. The rock sits at the bottom of the tank and creates an open pocket of air and space below your substrate. Excess water drains down into it instead of sitting in the root zone,
